  2. Previous lesson’s important point • When you write a description, you tell what something- a person, an object, or a place -looks like.

  3. There are two keys to writing a good descriptions • Key 1: Use space order to organize your description. • Key 2: Use lots of descriptive details.

  4. Topic and Concluding idea • The topic part usually names the person, place, or thing to be described. • The controlling idea part usually gives a general impression(beautiful, interesting, busy, noisy), and so on.

  5. Example • The old house looked ready to fall down. • Topic Controlling idea • The cave was a dangerous place to enter. • Topic Controlling idea • The club was full of young people having fun • Topic Controlling idea

  6. Reasons and Examples • “Good paragraph is specific and narrow” • Before writing, we have to follow four rules. • Rule 1: Clear • Rule 2: Specific • Rule 3: Detail • Rule 4: Concise • Because “the reader has zero knowledge”, we have to follow four rules.

Opinion Paragraphs • Before writing, we have to follow four rules. • Rule 1: State your opinion clearly in the topic sentence • Rule 2: Explain each reason in logical order • Rule 3: Use facts to support each reason. • Rule 4: End with a powerful concluding sentence that your reader will remember
