About IEEE COMSOC Turkey Active IEEE COMSOC Members are mostly: • Faculty Members • Graduate Students • Industrial researchers with PhD IEEE COMSOC Student Branches (e.g., İTÜ) Main Communication Channel • ieee-comsoc-tr@listeci.cmpe.boun.edu.tr • 716 (856) members in the list (no cross check) • 2456 whole IEEE Turkey

IEEE COMSOC Turkey Activities 10-20 technical talks / year • Visiting Researchers from Universities • Distinguished Researchers from Industry • IEEE Distinguished Lecturers (financial support for tours) 2-3 student activities, info days / year Technical Support for 3-4 National and Regional IEEE Conferences / year

Recent IEEE Conferences in Turkey • IEEE ISCC 2012, IEEE NTMS 2012 • IEEE BlackSeaCom 2013 • IEEE WCNC 2014 21st National Conference IEEE SIU • Signal processing and Communications Conference • Covered in IEEE Explorer • 400 papers, 600 attendees, half of which are students • Low attendance fees

Major Advantages • Being an engineer (especially an ICT engineer) is very prestigious • Very very competitive Electrical and Computer Engineering Departments (e.g. our university receives students from 0.01% in a 2 million student central exam) • Large government spending for R&D in ICT, and incentives for the industry

  6. Major Disadvantages • There is no IEEE Turkey • We do not have any financial support from IEEE since there is no IEEE Turkey • Visibility through a web page or social media is not straightforward since there is no IEEE Turkey • Increasing IEEE COMSOC Conference fees may become prohibitive for our members and graduate students
