  2. Alzheimer's disease is a disorder characterized by loss of memory along with other cognitive changes

  3. Alzheimer disease is a form of dementia caused by the destruction of brain cells

  4. A family history is positive for Alzheimer's if three or more generations of a family exhibit signs of the disease. Patients are diagnosed with sporadic Alzheimer disease after all other causes of dementia are excluded.

  5. The less common type of dementia that has to be left out as often as possible contributors are endocrine abnormalities (abnormalities in the hormones of the body)

  6. Because the course of Alzheimer disease has a lot of different types, treatment is supposed to be supportive of both patient and caretakers. Neurological and behavioral problems are treated as needed. Some treatments may be as minor as just playing memory games.
