Our Daily Schedule • 7:30- School Begins/ Morning Announcements • 7:40- 8:00 Morning work/DEAR Time • 8:00-9:50-Language Arts/Literacy Centers (Whole Group (Phonics, Spelling, Building Background, Comprehension, High Frequency Words, and Vocabulary), Reading Small Groups, Literacy Centers and Independent Activities • 9:50-10:00-Recess • 10:00-10:45- Special Areas Monday- Art Thursday-Media Tuesday- Music Friday-Counseling Wednesday – Computer • 10:45-11:25- SHINE TIME( M, W)/Theme (T, Th, F) • 11:25-11:50- Lunch • 11:50-12:00-Chapter Book • 12:00-12:30- P.E. • 12:30-1:15-Math • 1:15-2:00-Theme(M, W)/Math Centers( T, Th, F) • 2:00-2:15-Daily Wrap Up, End of Day Announcements,

  6. Literacy Stations • Literacy stations are completed during small group reading time. Students are to work independently at one activity per day and complete the task. Work that is not completed will be sent home to complete. • These stations include: Phonics, Word Study, See and Do (grammar), Make a word, Smart Board, Computer, and Fluency. • Children who complete their work early then rotate to a “FREE” center.They include Games, Blocks, Puzzles, Listening, Shared-paired reading, and Silent Reading

  8. Small Reading Group • 5-6 students with the same reading skills will practice • Decoding • Vocabulary • Fluency • Comprehension • Sound Combinations • Writing

Curriculum • Reading – Scott Foresman Series -meet individual needs in small group -spelling counts only as small percentage of grade • Writing – Four sentences -by the end of second grade 3 developed paragraphs on one topic • Math – Scott Foresman/Investigations • Social Sciences – Theme/Science Kits • Handwriting – Zaner-Bloser

  12. Grading Policies • E- excellent (90-100) • G- good (80-89) • S- satisfactory (70-79) • N- needs improvement (65-69) • U- unsatisfactory (64–and below) Report Card Language Arts Math Social/Sciences

  13. Homework • Homework Folders are sent home each night. • Assignment book comes home each night. Sign and return each day. • Please listen to your child read each night and write the title in the reading log. • Math homework will be sent home in packets. It is very important to do ONE page a night. • Please return library books on Thursday of each week.

  14. Discipline Policy • Green – Great Job • Yellow – Verbal Warning • Red – Time Out for recess • Orange- Note to parent/time out in another classroom • Blue – See the principal/Office/Note Home • Daily reports of color in Assignment book. Please review and initial each night.

OES Handbook • Students are allowed to bring a healthy snack for snack time (e.g. grapes, goldfish, graham crackers, peanuts-Note sent home last week) • We are not allowed to heat children’s lunches in the microwave. Please send in food that does not have to be heated. • Please wear appropriate shoes to school since PE is first thing. Children may change their shoes after PE. • Please contact the office if there is a change of transportation. • Please be aware of tardiness and early checkouts. • If your child is absent, you must send a written excuse to the office. + Your child must be fever free for 24hrs.

If you would like to eat lunch with your child, please let your child’s teacher know that morning ($3.50). • If you send cash, place it in an envelope with the child’s name and lunch number. • Please make sure to check in at the office when visiting for a visitors pass. • We love to have volunteers for fieldtrips but we are not allowed have siblings attend.

  17. Other Information • Need help pulling Reading Workbooks Unit 2 • Volunteers (Guest Reading/one-on-one) • Some children are cold in the room. You made need to send a little jacket to keep in the classroom. • Send in box tops, soup labels, pop tops for our class collection. We want to help our school and others through our class donation.

  18. Things Needed • Printer Ink for hp6540, Air Wick Air Freshener or glade plug-ins, hand sanitizer, ziplock baggies, Chlorox wipes, kleenex, and individually wrapped hard candy • We Collect Pop Tops. We will donate to the Ronald McDonald House near the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. The pop-tops will be cashed in. Families of sick children will be able to stay there for Free.
