  2. AIMS OF THE SESSION • To be able to identify development stages of your players • To be able to identify all factors that have an impact on the performance of your players • To be able to identify the things to consider when planning sessions

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT MODEL • Playing and coaching pathway by which rugby league is introduced to young players • Done in incremental stages • Structured to accommodate the changing developmental abilities of children as they mature • Provide a researched based planning aid for coaches and administrators

  5. TASK 1 • Complete the questionnaire, p60 of candidate pack • Feedback thoughts • Group discussion

  6. LEARNING TO PLAY • Multi activity approach • Participate in a range of sports • Integrate movement skills with aspects of strength and endurance • Delivered in schools and community clubs • 1 or 2 RL sessions of 45-75 minutes • 3-4 other sporting activities

  7. DEVELOPING THE PLAYER • Sport specific skill development in unit context • Increased player and coach awareness of individual development • Introduce appropriate behaviours for a performance environment • Delivery through schools, clubs and Rugby League Performance Pathway

  8. TASK • For the developmental stage at which you coach, please discuss and list what you would expect from coaches in terms of : • Coaching philosophy • Adult coaching behaviours

  9. Player focused • The primary driver in the decision making and planning of programmes: Working with players to identify their development needs and fulfil these to achieve the complete player.

  10. Coach enhanced • Every coach at every level should enhance the experience for every player. This will be through the quality of delivery, the quality of the experience or the quality of the service provided.

  11. Environment Supported • Providing the appropriate delivery environment for the developmental needs of the player at the appropriate time.

  17. Planning to deliver your first session • Coaches pair up with the person who has been allocated the same topic. You will each be delivering for 20 minutes to half of the group. Followed by a group review Discuss • Your objective(s) for the session • How you will set up your area and equipment • The safety considerations • What you will say at the start of the session • How you are going to organise your groups • What if any demonstrations you will give • The key technical points. • Time management • How will you draw out the learning • How you will conclude the session

  19. Practical Delivery - Review • Think about the sessions that have been delivered and identify two things to work on to improve your coaching and two things you have done well and want to continue to do. • These can be used as your personal goals on your session planners

To Do…… • Complete self reflection template (number 1) on page 23 • Complete quiz questions pages 9 – 15 • Look through the game cards • Complete Health & Safety Checklist for home venue page 19 • Plan & deliver sessions, that are linked, away from the course and complete session plans and self reflections for each session • Collect in Code of Conducts • Look through all the Game Cards to familiarise yourself with them for day 3’s delivery
