Overview of the OLSPB • As set out in the section 41 of the Official Languages Act, the OSLBP has the mandate to: • Enhance the vitality of the English and French linguistic minority communities in Canada; • Support and assist their development; • Foster full recognition and use of both English and French in Canadian society. • In accordance with section 42, it also coordinates the Government of Canada’s commitment to encourage other federal departments and agencies to participate actively in community development and promote linguistic duality. YCW Official Languages (cont’d) YCW in Both Official Languages (YCWBOL) Official Languages Support Programs Branch YCW Official Languages • The Department’s YCWBOL of the Summer Work Experience program of the Government of Canada’s YES aims to: • help students through short-term work experiences • earn money to help pay their tuition fees • provide awareness of the benefits linked to Canada’s rich cultural diversity • take advantage of the opportunity to use their workplace skills in both English and French

YCW Official Languages YCWBOL Official Languages Support Programs Branch YCW Official Languages • The Department’s YCW-BOL of the Summer Work Experience program of the Government of Canada’s YES aims to (cont’d): • encourage students to use their basic speaking skills in the workplace • provide networking opportunities across the country • facilitate the integration of new Canadians into Canada’s labour market

YCW Official Languages (cont’d) YCW – Languages at Work (YCW-L@W) Official Languages Support Programs Branch YCW Official Languages • The Department’s YCW-L@W of the Summer Work Experience program of the Government of Canada’s YES aims to: • offer students a short-term work experience • encourage the use of basic official language-related skills which were acquired through the SLBP • provide a chance to work, in a host region, through a total on-site immersion work experience, in a cultural and linguistic environment

YCW Official Languages (cont’d) YCW at Building Careers in English and French (YCW-BCEF) Official Languages Support Programs Branch YCW Official Languages • The Department’s YCW-BCEF of the Career Focus program of the Government of Canada’s YES aims to: • • meet the demand for skilled workers based on Canada’s linguistic duality • meet the demand for skilled workers in minority official-language communities • promote opportunities for new Canadians and Canadian graduates in order to foster their integration or re-entry into the labour market in those communities • encourage youth to pursue graduate studies and professional development

YCW Official Languages Delivery • YCW Official Languages is delivered: • Through a third-party delivery system • By non-for-profit community organizations • Focused on economic development, linguistic duality and/or official-language minority communities • These non-profit community organizations: • Assume responsibility for the management, administration and delivery of YCW Official Languages • Have signed multi-year contribution agreements (2003-06) with PCH Official Languages Support Programs Branch YCW Official Languages
