  1. Multi-Genre Project This project asks you to focus on themes and lessons while creating a poster. You are going to create 5 artifacts that fulfill a variety of genres for a museum exhibit poster that will demonstrate lessons we have learned in the play. On the following pages are further instructions for how to begin your Multi-genre museum exhibit. R & J Poster Shape ideas

  2. What do an Artifact and Curator notes look like? Curator Notes: Artifact 1 The first artifact is a character diary written by Johnny Cade, a greaser and one of the main characters in the novel. In the character diary Johnny speaks about the major conflict the boys have to deal with which is being preyed upon by a group of rich kids known as the socials. Johnny’s statement in the dairy, “Today was kinda rough” is a lot like When Pony in the novel says “Things were rough all over, all right. All over the East Side. It just didn't seem right to me” (p. 48). Both characters show us that while both the rich and poor have problems; poverty, presents a unique set of problems that the rich socials simply can't relate to. The diary also shows the themes of isolation, loyalty and love. While Johnny shows us that he is isolated from his parents, he is loyal and receives love from his gang. We learn from Johnny how important it is to look after our friends and loved ones. # 1 - Character Diary Today was kinda rough. Poor Ponyboy got jumped by them no good Socs. Man they think they are so tuff. It made me so mad that I wasn't there to help Pony. It makes me so scared to think of what might have happened if Darry and the others hadn't been there to chase them away. Me and Pony got to stick together as we are the youngest and all. Pony's a good kid, he just don't think sometimes. My old lady was in the worst mood today. Man all I did was forget to take out the trash and she laid into me, yelling about what a waste of space I was. I can't stand it. If it wasn't for the gang I'd run outa there in a second. Me and Pony are going to the movies tomorrow night with Dally. At least it will get me away from home. Write more later. Yours, Johnny Cade Project Example:

  3. Multi-Genre Project Artifacts: Your poster must include at least 5 different artifacts for your exhibit. Three of your artifacts will be created, 2 of your artifacts will be “found” meaning you will find artifacts on the internet to connect to the play. Curator Notes: For each artifact you will assume the voice of a curator (or tour guide) and write a paragraph explanation of how the artifact relates to the novel. Formula: 1) In your 1st sentence introduce your audience to the artifact. 2) In your 2nd sentence summarize the contents of your artifact. 3) In your 3rd sentence connect your artifact to a quote in the book. 4) In your 4th sentence explain the quote. 5) In your 5th sentence explain how your artifact and quote involve the same themes.
