  3. Cortes’s early life • Hernando Cortes was born in 1485 and he was Spanish. • He died in 1547 In a town near Seville, Spain. • In the 1520 Cortes and his army retreated from the Aztec Capital. • Cortes was eager for fame and fortune.

  4. What was Cortes looking for • Hernando Cortes was looking for things that made him rich like gifts of gold and spices • Cortes knew the Aztecs had gold so he killed them and stole there gold.

  5. The Route Cortes took • Hernando Cortes explored La Paz to Mexico and back to La Paz. • Here is a picture of the route he took.

  6. Interesting things about Cortes • Some interesting things about Cortes is that Cortes was forced to go to Mexico and find gold. • Cortes captured Montezuma in his city. • Velazquez sent forces to arrest Cortes and he was forced to leave

  7. Discoveries • Cortes went to Cuba and found out that Mexico had good riches

  8. Additional facts • Velazquez canceled the expedition but Hernando disregarded his orders and went to Mexico with eleven ships and also with a small army
