  3. The Universal Reality of Sin Everyone (1:18-20) Jew (ch. 2:17ff) Moral (ch. 2:1-16) Educated (1:21-31) “So that all people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

  4. God’s Wrath is Real and His Judgment will Really Fall on Everyone who Refuses to Repent. God will judge everyone based on: 1. What they THINK: The way they judge others. 2. What they DO: The merit of their works. 3. What they KNOW: The extent of their knowledge.

  5. The Pervasive Power of Sin Foolish hearts darkened (21) Brain Suppress the truth by their wickedness (18) Body Being They are full of envy, murder, strife… (29)

  6. The Spiral of Life - Romans 8:4-5 “Have their minds set on what the Spirit desires” “That the righteous requirements of the Law might be fully met in us who walk / live not according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.” Brain Body Being “Those who are being according to the Spirit”

  7. Despite our FaithlessnessGod is Faithful. 1. God was Faithful in Blessing the Jews First of all Primarily Revealing His Will – “the oracles of God” “Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.” Romans 9:4-5

God was Faithful in Blessing the Jews First of all Primarily Revealing His Will – “the oracles of God” Moses Abraham David Daniel Jesus 1500 BC 2000 BC 1000 BC 500 BC 30 AD “I will bless you… and through you all nations will be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-4

God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God… “However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you…” Deuteronomy 28:1-2,15

God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews “The Lord will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him… TheLord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth.” Deuteronomy 28:20,25

God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews “The Lord will drive you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors. There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone.You will become a thing of horror, a byword and an object of ridicule among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you… Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known.” Deuteronomy 28:20,25

  12. Despite our FaithlessnessGod is Faithful. 1. God was Faithful in Blessing the Jews Revealing His Will 2. God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews “The Lord, the Lord, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding with hesed and emet.” Exodus 34:6

God is Faithful in Judging the Religious Our unrighteousness highlights God’s righteousness Our falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness Our evil results in good: God is glorified But God is not unjust We are free to NOT sin And we are not free to sin…

God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews His Judgment is Just Believers are not free to sin 3. God is Faithful in Judging the Religious & the Rebellious Everyone is “Under Sin” “Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life has set us free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Son…” Romans 8:2-3

God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews His Judgment is Just Believers are not free to sin 3. God is Faithful in Judging the Religious Sinful at Heart Everyone is “Under Sin” Sinful in Speech 4. God is Faithful in Judging the Rebellious Sinful in Action Works cannot save Everyone is Guilty

  16. Despite our FaithlessnessGod is Faithful. 1. God was Faithful in Blessing the Jews Revealing His Will We are free to NOT sin 2. God was Faithful in Punishing the Jews His Judgment is Just Believers are not free to sin 3. God is Faithful in Judging the Religious Sinful at Heart Everyone is “Under Sin” Sinful in Speech 4. God is Faithful in Judging the Rebellious Sinful in Action Works cannot save Everyone is Guilty 5. God is Faithful in Providing a Savior The Law’s Purpose was never to REMOVE sin but to REVEAL it
