  1. Project HUSP:Humidity/UV-c Sensor Payload Team Parro Presentation of Flight Results NSBF, Palestine, TX Team Parro: Project HUSP

  2. Flight Positions • Joshua Hignight- Project manager, final prep • Jason Rollins-Payload handler • Sean Mullins-Balloon handler • Tim Butler-Payload handler • Dr. Lee Sawyer, Matt VanKerkhove, Kathleen Thornhill, Richard Chevious – Tech Support Team Parro: Project HUSP

  3. Hypothesis There is an expected rise in humidity at the ozone layer, believed to be caused by an increase in UV-c. Team Parro: Project HUSP

  4. Payload • UV-c sensor • Humidity sensor • Temperature sensor Team Parro: Project HUSP

  5. Science • Ozone layer ≈ 19-48 km high • UV-c cannot penetrate ozone layer • Temperature rises where the ozone begins Team Parro: Project HUSP

  6. Science • Ozone absorbs UV between 200nm and 310nm • This breaks up the ozone from O3 → O2 + O • The O then forms with water to form two hydroxyl molecules O + H2O → 2HO • Each of these OH’s then form with methane (CH4) to form water. Team Parro: Project HUSP

  7. Results Team Parro: Project HUSP

  8. Temperature vs Altitude Team Parro: Project HUSP

  9. Relative Humidity vs Altitude Team Parro: Project HUSP

  10. Absolute Humidity vs Altitude Team Parro: Project HUSP

  11. UV-c vs Altitude Team Parro: Project HUSP

  12. Absolute Humidity & UV-c vs Altitude Team Parro: Project HUSP

  13. Relative Humidity & UV-c vs Altitude Team Parro: Project HUSP

  14. Conclusion • Rise in humidity at the upper part of the stratosphere • Sudden spike in UV-c at upper part of the stratosphere • Ozone layer is ≈ 28.85 km • A strong correlation between UV-c and humidity Team Parro: Project HUSP

  15. Acknowledgements • Dr John Wefel & Dr Greg Guzik • LA-SPACE consortium • NASA & NSBF • Dr Lee Sawyer • Dr Sandra Selmic & Keith Chamberlain Team Parro: Project HUSP
