  2. What are Video Games? • Definition An electronic or computerized game played by manipulating images on a video display or television screen. This usually includes some kind of microchip and/or motherboard.

  3. Where did it all begin? • History The first documented video game was created by A.S. Douglas in 1952. This game was called noughts and crosses and was similar to tick-tac-toe. It was run on a large computer at Cambridge University that was known as an Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator.

  4. How Far We Have Come • Slowly moving forward through time we began to develop far more advanced systems and programs to reach what we now have in the present. Some of the different type are hand held, such as the PSP or Game Boy DS. Then there are PC games for you computers at home or laptops. • One of the more popular systems are the consoles. There are a huge array of different types of videogame consoles, including Sony Playstation who recently came out with their Playstation 3, Nintendo with there newest console the Wii, and X-box with their new X-box 360. All of which come with wireless and internet capabilities.

  6. In The Classroom? • Some schools are incorporating Video games into the classroom, by way of PC as well as consoles. Educational games can be found in most elementary through some high schools. These can include things such as word processing games and math games. Consoles are new to the school systems but are now being implemented in school programs such as Physical Education. The popular Dance Dance revolution is such a game. There is a mat on the floor with different arrows pointing up, down, left, right, and diagonals. The goal is to match the steps presented on a TV screen to complete a dance. This is very good physical exercise. Suncrest Middle School in Morgantown, West Virginia; Dance Dance Revolution is mandated for use in gym class in schools throughout West Virginia. Los Angeles Unified School District, has about 40 schools now use the program as well().

  7. Are your doctors playing games with you? • Yes video games can even be found in the medical field. Doctors are beginning to use the Nintendo Wii for several different functions. One way is for their own benefit. The game Marble Mania along with a few others games have been found to require close to the same precision that is needed in surgery. In a test case it was found the surgeons who had played the Wii showed 48% more improvement on the procedure than those who hadn’t, according to a standard score that measures performance on the simulation.
