Financial Aid Process • File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online at www.fafsa.gov • Priority Aid – received by priority deadline (February 28) • Late Aid – received after priority deadline • UWB receives your FAFSA information 1 – 5 weeks after you file, and packages your financial aid • Considered for grants, loans, and work study funds • Accept financial aid award on MyUW • Sign Master Promissory Note (MPN) for loans

Financial Aid Process (continued) • Aid is disbursed evenly over autumn, winter & spring quarters • Disbursements occur one week before the quarter starts • Automatically pays student account (tuition, fees, etc.) • Leftover money is deposited through direct deposit, or available in a check that is mailed to your address • Buy your books, use funds for other student expenses

  4. Financial Aid Process (continued) • File a new FAFSA every year • Financial aid year: summer -- spring • Priority deadline for next year: February 28, 2012 • We recommend filing by February 15 to be received by the Federal Processor by February 28.

  5. Financial Aid Eligibility Award is based on Full-Time enrollment: • Graduate credit requirements: • 10 = Fulltime • 5 = Part-time • Undergraduate credit requirements: • 12 = Fulltime • 6 = Part-time • Aid can be adjusted to less than full-time status • Some aid requires full-time enrollment

  6. FAFSA Revision Requests • Revision Requests • Change in Resources/ Financial Situation (loss of income, child support, uninsured medical costs) • Additional Expenses (computer, childcare, professional license, medical)
