  1. IET 120 Construction Project Name: Shane Holbrook

  2. Dwelling • Number of Floors 1

  3. Square Footage • Square footage of each floor: 4500 sq feet • Square footage total: 4500

  4. Building Materials • Recycled Natural Cotton for insulation. Geothermal Heating and Cooling system. Recycled content drywall. Ecofriendly paint. Water Filtration system, utilizing water usage from rainfall. • Water filtration. Catches rain water and filters it for consumption, therefore utilizing water already availible. Geothermal heating and cooling, using earth for climate control. Plants on roof, availble for food, oxygen. • I wanted to go completely green, even using a tornadic type vacuum system for the geothermal. Although the budget didn’t allow for it. The purpose of using the filtration system is to reduce our reliance. To be almost self sustainable. To utilize the earths heat, also cuts back on our impact on which we are using energy.

  5. Building Materials • A continuation of building materials • Fireclay Tile • Recycled Content Drywall • Front Wood Door • Interior insulated Door • Garage Door • Vinyl Windows • 2X6 Studs • Geothermal heating and cooling • Recycled Natural Cotton • Sink – Porcelain • Countertops – Bamboo • Range – Viking 60” gas Range double oven • Refrigerator – Victory Ultra spec series • Oriented Strandboard (OSB) • Interior/Exterior ecofriendly paint • Metal roofing • Fiber cement board siding 5’X3’ (1/2”)

  6. Floor Plan Layout • I chose to make everyone their own private quarters. The reason being is because everyone really needs their privacy. Communal bedrooms are fine, although this layout, although small, makes one feel more as if they are in their own community, as opposed to a camp or soldier barrack.

  7. Timeline

  8. Conclusion • It was fun designing the building. I learned a lot about management of space, and of buildings in general. • I did learn some new things about buildings that I previously didn’t know. I learned about their structure, the processes involved and so fourth.
