  12. •Currently Bangladesh holds more than 4.5 percent share in the global clothing export- market and positioned itself as 2ndlargest garment exporting country in terms of value after China. •Bangladesh has already been a USD 20 billion industry. •In fact, RMG export accounted for 78% of the total export of Bangladesh in FY 2009-10. Primary source: Bangladesh Bank, January 2011

  13. A well balanced growth rate both in Knitting & Weaving Primary source: Bangladesh Bank, January 2011

  14. •At present Bangladesh exports RMG to around 90 countries in the world which include USA, Canada, Germany, UK, France, Italy and Turkey. October to December period of 2010 •Bangladesh has a quota to export only 10 million garment pieces to India and it took just 6 months for the country to exhaust the quota set by the Indian government. As a result of the quotas, Bangladesh's RMG export to India is only worth $35 million compared to $20 billion in RMG exports worldwide. Primary source: Bangladesh Bank, January 2011 Daily Star; 2-11-12; RMG industry: a bright spot

  15. Challenge for Future Textile Engineer: •Bangladesh focuses mainly on low cost basic items and lags behind major competitors such as China and Vietnam in terms of product diversification. •Major portions of Bangladesh's exports are shirts, blouses, T-shirt, pullovers and these products are produced mainly to cater to middle and lower market segments of US and EU. • It is notable that Bangladesh produces very limited categories of expensive and fashion oriented garments. You, the future Textile Engineer, would incline your talent towards smart textile technology to foster the Growth of RMG sectors.

  16. 5 million workers are currently employed and 50% of them are female worker from rural areas.

  17. Despite many difficulties like  inefficiencies  port and transport, low supply of electricity and gas rising cotton price

  18. Today's Excellence in Textile Engineering: •The shoe changes the level of cushioning according to the speed, and the terrain. •A magnetic sensor in the shoe monitor changes in weight, pace and surface 1000 times per second and send the information to a microprocessor •The microprocessor capable for 5 million calculations per second analyses the input and, if necessary, sends instructions to the shoe’s “muscle” •A motor-driven cable system connected to a cushioning cylinder in the heel changes then the cushioning user’s weight and

It predicts that the country's apparel exports will double by 2015 and nearly triple within a 10-year horizon Source: Daily Star; 17-12-2011; McKinsey predicts RMG exports to double by 2015
