  3. U. S Naval Academy

  4. Naval Academy A 4 year military college that offers outstanding opportunities for qualified young persons to embark on careers as officers in the United States Navy or Marine Corps after obtaining a Bachelors of Science degree.

  5. Naval Academy Eligibility Requirements Must be a U. S. Citizen (no ifs, ands, or buts) At least 17 years of age and must not have passed your 23rd birthday before July 1st of the year entering the Academy Good morale character and have no court martial convictions, civilian felony convictions. No NJPs during the 3 years preceding application. No substantiated drug use or alcohol abuse Unmarried, not pregnant, and have no incurred obligations of parenthood

Naval Academy Eligibility Requirements (cont) Physically qualified and in excellent health 20/20 vision (Waivers CAN be granted as long as vision can be corrected to 20/20) Normal color perception as determined by the Farnsworth Lantern test Tattoos must not be prejudicial to good order and discipline and not be visible in PT gear Scholastically qualified as determined by the Naval Academy (Typically top 40% of high school class) Recommended in writing by your Commanding Officer

Naval Academy Eligibility Requirements (cont) SAT or ACT test no more than 2 years old Minimum SAT scores are 550 math and 500 verbal Minimum ACT scores are 24 math and 22 english Fleet applicants must apply for a SECNAV nomination NLT Jan 31st of the application year (Maximum of 170 enlisted members every year) Agree to a minimum service obligation of 5 years active duty and 3 years reserves upon initial appointment

  8. Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS)

  9. Naval Academy Preparatory School Provides intensive instruction and preparation for the academic, military and physical training at the Naval Academy. Convenes July of each year and runs until May of the following year. Located in Newport, RI

  10. NAPS (cont) Those that apply for the Naval Academy and are not accepted are automatically CONSIDERED for NAPS.

  11. Officer Candidate School (OCS)

  12. What is it? Commissioning program for individuals possessing, at a minimum, a bachelors degree from an accredited college. 13 week intensive officer training and indoctrination located in Pensacola Florida.

  13. OCS Advantages E-4 and below are designated officer candidates and are advanced to E-5 during training (E-5 and above are designated officer candidates in their present pay grade) OCS is far less competitive than the other officer programs.

  14. OCS Qualifications Must have attained a minimum of a bachelors degree. Have good morale character and no NJPs, military or civilian court convictions for past 3 years. Must take the Officers Aptitude Rating test. No minimum score required, but scores below 35 are not competitive.

  15. OCS Qualifications (cont) Must be recommended by your Commanding Officer Minimum of 19 years of age. Maximum age depends on what field you are applying. SWO – 29 (2 year waiver for prior service)

  16. OCS Qualifications (cont) SPECWAR/SPECOPS – 29 (Up to 35 for prior service) Nuclear SWO/Subs – 26 ½ (Up to 29 ½ for prior service) Naval Flight Officer – 30 (Up to 32 for prior service) Pilot – 27 (Up to 31 for prior service) Restricted Line/Staff Corp – 35 (No waivers)

  17. Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP)

  18. What is MECP Nurse Corps commissioning program specifically intended to provide an advancement pathway to a commissioned status in the Nurse Corp on the active duty list. What MECP is not Precursor to medical school nor for academic programs leading to certification or licensure as a physical therapist, physician assistant, or other health care specialty.

  19. MECP Qualifications Must be serving on active duty as enlisted personnel in any rating Have good morale character and no NJPs, military or civilian court convictions for past 3 years. Must be a U. S. citizen No drug use High school graduate (GED is acceptable as long as they are issued by the Department of Education)

MECP Qualifications (cont) Must have a minimum of 30 transferable semester credits of undergraduate study completed Must have already applied for acceptance or transfer into a bachelors degree program for Nursing during the same fiscal year in which the selection board is held (Must provide letter in package) Must be able to complete degree in 36 months Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher SAT or ACT test within the last 3 years (Minimum SAT is 1000 and ACT is 42)

  21. Limited Duty Officer (LDO) and Chief Warrant Officer (CWO)

  22. What is it? The LDO and CWO programs provide commissioning opportunities for qualified senior enlisted personnel and Chief Warrant Officers (LDO).

  23. LDO Qualifications U. S. Citizen (Not waiverable) High School Graduate (GED acceptable) Be serving in paygrade E6 or above (E6 candidates must have at least 1 year service as a First Class Petty Officer and have successfully competed in the Navy-wide exam for CPO receiving a final multiple equal to or greater than the minimum for E7 selection board eligibility)

  24. LDO Qualifications Minimum 8 years, but not more than 16 years of total active Naval service Chief Warrant Officers applying for the LDO program who have completed at least 3 years as a CWO and no more than 19 years of total active service will be appointed to LTJG

  25. CWO Qualifications U. S. Citizen (Not waiverable) High School Graduate (GED acceptable) Be serving in paygrade E7 or above (E6 candidates who are selected for CPO are also eligible to apply for CWO) Minimum 12 years, but not more than 24 years of total active Naval service Master Chief Petty Officers applying for CWO who have completed at least 2 years of service as a MCPO will be appointed to CWO3

  26. Seaman to Admiral (STA-21)

  27. STA-21 Advantages Full time, year round student Full pay, allowances and benefits Maintain eligibility for advancement Open to all pay grades

  28. STA-21 Qualifications U. S. Citizen (Not waiverable) High School Graduate (GED acceptable) Be serving on active duty Be able to complete bachelors degree in 36 months Must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher while enrolled in STA-21 Recommended by your Commanding Officer Passed PRT within the last year

  29. STA-21 Qualifications Certified copies of SAT or ACT scores within last 3 years Minimum score of 1000 on SAT (500 math and 500 verbal Minimum score of 41 on ACT (21 math and 20 english) No record of civilian or court martial convictions No NJPs within the last 3 years

  30. Seaman to Admiral Program Options

  31. Nuclear Option Must be in Nuclear field Must be commissioned by age 26 Sea returnee staff instructors must be commissioned by age 31 Incur a 5 year service obligation upon commissioning

  32. CEC Option Must be a Seabee Minimum of 4 years active duty (3 years must be in the fleet) Must maintain a 3.0 GPA Commissioned by age 35 Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning

  33. Pilot Option Open to all rates Achieve a minimum score of 3 on the Academic Qualification Rating portion of the ASTB exam Achieve a minimum score of 4 on the Pilot Flight Aptitude Rating portion of the ASTB exam Commissioned by age 27 (Waivers up to age 31) Service obligation of 8 years upon commissioning

  34. Naval Flight Officer Option Open to all rates Achieve a minimum score of 3 on the Academic Qualification Rating portion of the ASTB exam Achieve a minimum score of 4 on the Pilot Flight Aptitude Rating portion of the ASTB exam Commissioned by age 30 (Waivers up to age 32) Service obligation of 6 years upon commissioning

  35. SPECOPS/SPECWAR Option SPECWAR applicants must have one of the following NECs: 5323, 5326, 8492, or 8491 Commissioned by age 29 (Waivers up to age 35) Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning Must qualify for diving/combat swimmer

  36. Nurse Corp Option Must be at least 18 years of age and be commissioned by age 35 No drug abuse Must pass a Registered Nurse licensing exam Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning

  37. Surface Warfare (SWO) Option Must be commissioned by age 31 (Waivers considered up to age 35) Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning

  38. Supply Corp Option Must be commissioned by age 35 Must earn a bachelors degree in business, engineering, or math related field Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning

  39. Special Duty Officer (Intel) Option Must be at least 19 year of age and be commissioned by age 35 Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning

  40. Special Duty Officer (Cryptology) Option Must be at least 18 year of age and be commissioned by age 35 Must be a Cryptologic Technician serving in the Navy Service obligation of 5 years upon commissioning
