What should I know about persuasion? • Persuasive text: the author is attempting to convince you to agree with them or do something. •The author is trying to convince you to agree with their opinion – it may or may not be based on facts. • Fallacies are arguments that use poor reasoning, or when an author tries to convince you with a partial or fudgy truth.

  3. Why is this important to me? • If you don’t understand the fallacies an author uses, you could get tricked! • Not being able to recognize a fallacy could cost you money, time, and heartache. • There has been a surge in “fake news” in our country lately. Don’t be duped!
