  1. Glad to have you here. My name is Ms. Bowes, and I teach your child reading, writing, spelling, and grammar.

  2. Weekly Reading Test: Students need to know the vocabulary definitions, phonics pattern, and how to apply the focus skill. They will have a open ended question that is graded on a four point scale (it counts up to 16 points on the test) so it is extremely important.

  3. Spelling Test: Students will be tested on the first 15 words and the last 5 words will be bonus (counts as 1 extra point for each correctly spelled word). Handwriting: Students need to be forming letters correctly. If your child is having difficulty, I will be sending home handwriting homework.

  4. Writing: Students need to be able to answer questions in a complete sentence using words from the question. They will also need to provide evidence for their answer (details from the story). We will start writing in paragraphs during the 2nd nine weeks.

  5. Monday – Study Spelling, Vocabulary Tuesday – Study Spelling, Open ended question Wednesday – Study Spelling Thursday – Reread reading story and discuss; Study Spelling, Vocabulary Weekend – Read next week’s reading story

  6. Reading – 50% Tests, 50% Daily Grades Language Arts – 30% Writing, 20% Daily Grades, 50% Tests

  7. Discipline Plan was sent home.

  8. Lunch Time: 11:24 – 11:47 Ms. Bonds: 8:15 – 10:30 Most other times they are with Ms. Bowes

  9. Wednesdays – Music 1:10 – 1:40 Thursdays – Library (week 1); Computer Lab (week 2) 10:25 – 11:05

  10. Please sure to look at the planner each night and initial it. If your child doesn’t have one, please consider buying it.

  11. Write me a note in the homework assignment book, write me a note, or email me is the best way to communicate. I don’t always see notes in the graded paper folder until the weekend.
