  5. Some Things to Consider • Who is driving the quest? • Understand the Criteria • Identify internal expertise • Start with the Organizational Profile

  6. Leadership’s Role • Driven from the top • Know the Criteria • Keep the focus on assessment • Everyday is a site visit

  7. Understand the Criteria • A series of questions that ask how your key processes really work and how do you know they really work • Identify internal expertise who will be able to objectively assess actual effectiveness* * systematic, repeatable, sustained, well-deployed

  8. Organizational Profile • Five-page narrative of who you really are • Key organizational characteristics • Vision, Mission, Structure, Workforce • Strategic situation • Competitive position, Comparative data

  9. Can you handle the truth?

  10. Self-Assessment • Leadership • Strategic Planning • Customer Focus • Measurement, Analysis, Knowledge Management • Workforce • Operations • Results

  11. If there are more important things to be focusing on than the previous list…

  12. Beyond the Self-Assessment • Applying • Pace yourself • Allow feedback to drive improvements • No one knows your organization better than you do* * But you may not know it as well as you think you do

  13. Unless you are already a world class organization across many measures, expect to be disappointed with your first application or self-assessment.

  14. This Goes Without Saying* It’s not about Baldrige, TPE, awards or applications. It’s about disciplined, sustained improvement and a commitment to transparency.

  23. THE ALLIANCE WAY AHEAD… * States need to work for more consistency in our operations – we need to reduce variation between programs, feedback reports, award recognition levels, judging and scoring, and so forth. * We need to resolve the examiner software issue. * Create a more integrated, effective Enterprise – we will all have to compromise a little for the greater good. COMMUNICATION * A personal update from Brian Lassiter (or Katie Rawls, your Vice Chair) every two weeks. Open-invitation conference calls at least every other month to share information. * In opposite (odd number) months, brief calls from Alliance Board members.* The Alliance newsletter about once a quarter.

  24. TPE’s Strategy in the Transformation Process… • Actively participate in all conference calls and other communications to ensure we are fully informed. • President/CEO volunteered to be a committee member to demonstrate our engagement and willingness to help lead during the transition. • Continue to be engaged throughout the Baldrige Enterprise with National Examiners, Facilitators, Authors, Board Members (Mike Belter & Paul Worstell) . • In anticipation of increased applications we are issuing the call for examiners 5 months in advance of last year to build greater capacity. We are also developing the idea to create “college-student” examiners. • Create a break-out session at our state conference to discuss the Baldrige transformation and changes with our membership. • Ensuring that our training and awards processes remain in congruence with the national program so that we are seen as a relevant starting-point for our regional customers. • Bottom-line: TPE will continue to be a key stakeholder and leader in the future Baldrige Enterprise…
