  1. NA62 DCS CAN bus lines FV

  2. Short reminder • General properties of CAN bus • Up to 64 nodes on one bus • Different devices need different buses (WIENER, ISEG, ELMB,?) • Transition rate depends on the length of cable (from 1 Mbit/s for 25m to 10 kbit/s for 5000m) • Characteristic impedance 120 Ohm, termination on both ends • The starting point of the CANbus cables is DCS rack(s) in the PC farm area (b.918) • ISEG CAN bus • One module has two CAN-nodes, crate is one node. So one fully populated crate with 8 Modules EDS 20 130n_504 equals 17 CAN-nodes • Not more than 3 crates per cable • Peak PCAN-PCI two channel cards VF

  3. Short reminder -2 • ELMB CAN bus • In addition to the CAN bus signals the cable also provide the power for the ELMBs (12V) • Thick cable (SCEM code 04.21.60.491.2) will be used for long distance to minimize the voltage drop, thin cable (SCEM code 04.21.60.430.5) for local distribution + junction box “a la ATLAS” (has to be investigated) • Fixed double cable “PHOENIX CONTACT” connectors • KvaserPCIcanx4xHS cards • WIENER CAN bus • KvaserPCIcanx 4xHS cards • TCP/IP option for the WIENER equipment control is under consideration. Price for one fan-tray unit • CAN bus: 627 EURO • TCP/IP: 755 or 991 EURO • In total we will have about 60 crates VF

  4. Experimental Area PC farm area VF

  5. ISEG CAN bus lines • MUV, SAV • LAV 12, 11, 10 • LAV 9, 8, 7 • LAV 6, 5, 4 • LAV 3, 2, 1 • CEDAR (?) GT 854 (to PC farm) GT 853 (to NA48 CR) VF

  6. ISEG CAN bus lines • LAV 3, 2, 1 • CEDAR (?) VF

  7. WIENER crate control CAN bus lines • LKr • All other crates in EB, LAV12, LAV11, LAV10 • Straw tracker • LAV 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, CHANTI, GTK (?), CEDAR GT 854 (to PC farm) GT 853 (to NA48 CR) VF

  8. WIENER crate control CAN bus lines • LAV 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, GTK (?), CHANTI, CEDAR VF

  9. ELMB CAN bus lines • LKr • RICH, MUV, SAV • STRAW 1 • STRAW 2 • STRAW 3 • STRAW 4 • CHANTI, GTK3, GTK2, GTK1, CEDAR VF

  10. Other CAN bus lines • CAN bus cables for LAV thresholds (one cable per station) • Gas systems (one cable per system ?) • CEDAR NINO front-end cards control (one cable)? • RICH NINO front-end card control ? VF
