  1. What is the cost of web design? What is the cost of web design? It is a common question asked over and over, reason been is that everyone wants to know the prices of web design and get different quotes from a handful of different web design agencies, looking for the best price. I mean honestly, who does not want the best bang for their buck, right? However, the fact is that cheap does not always mean the best web site! For example, I have seen people with budgets between £200 - £500 for a website and expect that would be enough to secure a “quality website”, when there is a lot of factors to take into consideration. In this article, we will address what are the most important factors you should be looking for before hiring any web design agency or freelance to build you a website. Platform What platform are the web designers planning on building your website ? are they hand coding the theme ? are they using Squarespace? Wordpress? Drupal? Wix? The reason this is important, that certain platforms perform better than others, more flexible, faster and have large development communities behind them, allowing for you to get the best performing website for your money. One good example of this is wordpress. They hold the crown when it comes to CMS (Content Management Systems) So in short, what is the best platform? Without a shadow of a doubt, Wordpress is head and shoulders above any other platform?

  2. What are the downsides of Wordpress ? From a development point of view, wordpress websites are hugely flexible but there is also a steep learning curve to be able to finish wordpress websites to a high standard. So if you have years to practise your craft, then that is what is needed to execute websites to an agency level. Hosting Another crucial element to web design is hosting. Without hosting we could not have any website online. FULL STOP. This is one factor, I see time and time again been overlooked by business owners. Many business owners opt for the cheapest solution, when in reality if they had the knowledge web designers do, they would realise that it’s the WORST decision you could make! Why is that I hear you ask? It is due to the fact, that the hosting packages they buy do not have the power needed. Slow websites hurt your SEO rankings. Google only wants to deliver fast websites to their clients ie users searching in Google for a product or services. The reason Google does this for, is they want the end users experience to be a positive one, delivering what the searches intent was looking for and fasts ones at that. Let’s face it, slow websites provides an overall bad user experience, which is not what we are looking for, especially since we would be using the business to rank for certain keywords in Google.
