    2. Peter Max Contemporary American pop artist Studied art formally at the Art Students League in Manhattan Became known for graphic design – rock concert poster designs in 60’s Known for psychedelic style and patriotic subjects.

    3. Childhood Overseas Childhood home in Shanghai— a pagoda house, where on one side there was a Buddhist monastery, and on the other, a Sikh temple. In the morning he would watch the Buddhist monks painting Chinese characters on vast sheets of rice paper with large bamboo brushes and at night, he would listen to the beautifully sung prayers of the Sikhs.

    4. Cont… family traveled to Haifa, Israel. There, he studied with Austrian expressionist, Professor Honik, who introduced his student to the colorful world of Fauvism

    14. Directions 1. Choose 4 figures of varying sizes and poses from magazines. Outline their contours with a thin sharpie. 2. Tape a small sheet of tracing paper over each image and trace the contour lines. Cut each one out, leaving an edge. 3. Arrange figure cut outs overlapping and in differing directions on a 12x18 paper filling the space. 4. Place another sheet of 12x18 drawing paper on top of image and trace using a thin sharpie.

    15. Directions cont. 5. Watch the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” and take note on the patterns and doodles. 6. Make a practice paper and make 8 of your own patterns, words and designs. 7. Using Colored pencil fill in the shapes created by the overlapping figures with patterns.
