  13. How much is it?

  14. Can I use my summer fellowship funding at UF? • Sort of. • If you are on fellowship at UF, you need to register for eight hours graduate credit at UF. You should register for (part of) those hours as an independent study with someone in your department. • Then you may use your stipend to pay for the Program Scholar tuition at ICPSR.

  15. Is there other funding available? • Political Science Department • We expect to make two $2200 awards available for students planning to attend ICPSR. • Applications to Prof. Martinez in the form of a two page statement describing how the program will enhance your research. • ICPSR allocation to FCPR • One fee waiver for a four-week session.

Competitive Scholarships • Clogg Scholarship • Political Science and Sociology • Partial support for a very limited number of students (8 or 9 in Political Science last year) who are likely to contribute to the development of methods during their careers • Past winners include • MagdaGiurcanu (2008) • Dan Cicenia (2006)

  17. Competitive Scholarships • APSA Political Methodology Group and ICPSR • Janet Box-Steffensmeier Award will be awarded to a limited number of women Ph.D. students • John A. Garcia Award will be awarded to a limited number of minority Ph.D. students • Each provides a fee-waiver. • To apply for the Garcia or the Box-Steffensmeier award, eligible students should submit • (1) a Summer Program Application form • (2) a Vita • (3) a cover letter from the student explaining why s/he wants to attend the program and how this will aid in completion of the Ph.D. • (4) a faculty letter endorsing the student

  18. Competitive Scholarships • Miller Scholarship • In honor of the late Warren Miller, this scholarship is established to support a promising young scholar whose research builds on data from the National Election Studies.

UM Survey Research Center Summer Institute • Not part of ICPSR! • June 7 - July 30 in Ann Arbor • Roughly, SRC can teach you how to design and conduct a survey, and ICPSR can teach you to analyze and interpret the data (as well as non-survey data). While the two programs complement each other nicely, and while they are both under the auspices of the University of Michigan's ISR, they are not linked in any way. • You cannot use ICPSR source funds (eg., Clogg or Miller scholarship) for the SRC program.

  21. Survey Research Center Summer Institute • Summer Scholar tuition depends on number of credit hours • 3 to 5 credit hours $2400 (before May 1) • 6 to 9 credit hours $3000 (before May 1) • If you take ICPSR courses and SRC courses, you will pay full fees to both programs.

Institute on Qualitative and Multimethod Research • Syracuse University • June 14-25, 2010 • Competitive applications • UF has 2 slots, already filled for 2010 • Applications to Grad Coordinator in the form of a two page statement describing how the program will enhance your research program • Late fall for 2011 program

Institute on Qualitative and Multimethod Research • Fixed lecture schedule with variety of faculty on different topics • Readings and assignments sent to participants prior to program • Participants submit 10 page research proposal prior to arrival, which is critiqued • Focus on • epistemology • concept building • research design, esp for dissertation research • critique; especially helpful for small N studies
