  6. Campus Community • Student Organizations in Professional Schools: Law School, Engineering College, Medical Sciences, Library Sciences, etc. • Getting to know Faculty beyond the Humanities and Social Sciences

K-12 101 • Cultural Events • Know which local school in your area as a great performance space for public events/school visits • Classroom Presentations • Be ready to go with grade-level appropriate Power Points & artifact or Discovery Boxes • Teacher Workshops • Know where your region falls into the curriculum/standards • Be thematic!

  8. Building a Teacher Connection Have you considered a Teacher Advisory Committee???

Reaching Out • Coming to us – somewhat successful! • Going to them – VERY successful! • Statewide Teacher Conferences/National Teacher Conferences • Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies, WI Foreign Language Teachers Assoc., WI English Teachers Assoc., WI Middle and Elementary Level Teachers Assoc., Catholic Schools of Wisconsin Conference, etc. • Professional Development courses for School Districts • They do the advertising and enrollment, you do the content • Getting scheduled during in-services • No release time necessary – they have to be there

Outreach Identity If you are having a “Bad Outreach Day” remember to reach out to colleagues: • Other NRC Outreach Coordinators • Your world region outreach consortiums • Form an International Outreach group within your campus We often wear more than one hat and balancing can be difficult • Try as we might we can’t give 100% to each constituency • Sometimes a good idea is just that, file it away for a time when you need a fresh idea • Find ways to develop yourself professionally through trainings, conferences, courses, etc.
