  3. Keweenaw Peninsula Peninsula • Definition: • Land surrounded by water on three sides • Michigan is made up of two peninsulas • Can you see any other peninsulas on the Michigan map? Leelanau Peninsula

  4. Island • Definition: • A piece of land that is completely surrounded by water. • Michigan has more than 500 islands! • Mackinac Island • Beaver Island • Can you think of a state that is made up of islands?

  5. Sand Dunes • Definition: • Ridges or hills of loose sand piled up by the wind • Most are found near Lake Michigan Sleeping Bear dunes

  6. Mountain • Definition: • A very high, natural place on earth, higher than a hill • Mt. Arvon is the highest in Michigan (2000 ft.) • Do we have mountains in Michigan?

  7. Mountain Range Porcupine Huron • Definition: • A row of connected mountains • Michigan has two mountain ranges • The Huron Mountains • The Porcupine Mountains
