  1. Chemical Reaction the process by which one or more substances are changed into one or more different substances

  2. REACTANTSthe starting substances in a chemical reaction(the stuff on the left)

  3. PRODUCTSthe final substances in a chemical reaction(the stuff on the right)

  4. Chemical Equations = a representation of a chemical reaction For example: H2 + O2 H2O

  5. Translating Chemical Equations into a Sentence (I Do) KCl + LiOH LiCl + KOH Potassium chloride reacts with lithium hydroxide to form lithium chloride and potassium hydroxide.

  6. Translating Chemical Equations into a Sentence (We Do) N2O5 + H2O HNO3 Dinitrogenpentoxide reacts with dihydrogen monoxide to form hydrogen nitrate.

  7. Translating Chemical Equations into a Sentence (We Do) C2H4 + O2 CO2 + H2O Dicarbontetrahydride reacts with oxygen gas to form carbon dioxide and dihydrogen monoxide.

  8. You Do: Complete Assignment • Work with a partner to complete your assignment. • Due tomorrow 12/18/13!!
