  3. After today… • Students will be able to find out why Europeans carved up Africa into colonies. • Students will be able to determine the advantages that the Europeans possessed. • Students will see how the Africans resisted European occupation.

  4. What is Imperialism? The process of building an empire or When one country takes over another for economic profit

  5. What caused European imperialism? • Gold = • Industrial Revolution • Allows for the quick consumption & production of goods. • Desire for Raw Materials • Desire to sell goods to new people

  7. What caused European imperialism? • Glory = • Nationalism among European countries fuels competition • Superior weapons of Europeans • Internal rivalries & weakness of African governments (result of slave trade)
