  5. OVERVIEW OF TURKEY Land of Turkeyis very sensitive for desertification, due to her climate, topography, soil characteristicsandhumanactivities.

  6. CLIMATE OF TURKEY Annual Precipitation Average: 632mm Rize:2269mm Iğdır:231mm Arid and semi-arid lands in Turkey cover 51 million hectares. (65%) The precipitations are usually insufficient and irregular.

  8. “General Directorate of Combating Desertification And Erosion”wasestablishedat 2011 . The mission of the Directorate General is to put strategic plans in place, policy advocacy, to raise the level of public awareness, preparation & implementation of integrated projects to mitigate desertification and erosion. A total of seven departments have been set up under the DG’s office. The newly formed Directorate will also support combating of desertification in the least developed countries with the help of UNCCD.

Duties of General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion • To purpose of soil conservation and developing natural source ; watershed on the basis of integrity, • prepare plan and projects about combating desertification and soil erosion, avalanches, landslides, and flood control with the integrated watershed, • monitore implementations, on a project basis provide support to these activities, • identify policies and strategies related desertification, • ensure cooperation and coordination between related institutions and organizations.

Duties of General Directorate of CombatingDesertificationandErosion • preparing national and regional plans to improve watershed areas,identify policies and strategies. • to carry out activities of researches and developments, nationalandinternationaltraining, publications and promotional activitieswiththeUniversitiesresearch and development organizations

  11. National Action Plan Combat Desertification ( NAPCD ) is implemented in a successful way, which is prepared for implementation in national level and in the context of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification liabilities, in which our country is a party of it.

  12. Denizli-2011 INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Our country has a knowledge and experience about applications on desertification, afforestation, erosion control, improvement of damaged forests, in the fields of integrated watershed rehabilitation. Desertification, erosion control, wind erosion prevention, rehabilitation of water basins integrated, sustainable land management, institutional capacity building activities with national and international organizations, bilateral, regional and multilateral project works continue. Common efforts have been initiated with Africa, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle Eastern countries, will be increased.

  13. Denizli-2011 INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Our country continues to share knowledge experiences in this area with experts of the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Africa and neighboring countries.

  20. Turkey’s Forest increases Türkiye yaptığı çalışmalar ile orman varlığını artırmıştır. In Turkey, in the last 3 decades, Increasing of forest area is 6%, Increasing of total growing stock is 40%. The goal of Turkey is to increase forest area up to 30% till 2023.
