  1. Abortion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfc9y7X3zog

  2. When does Human Life Begin ? • Someone who believes that a human person does not exist until the later stages of prenatal development sees concern for respect for life primarily in terms of concern for the life and health of the pregnant woman. • If no human person exists until sometime late in the pregnancy or even at birth, then denying a pregnant woman an opportunity to terminate her pregnancy is denying her access to a medical procedure that can benefit her and harm no one.

  3. When Does Human Life Begin ? • If a person believes that a human exists at the earliest stages of development, that person will view abortion as unjustified killing. • Some one holding this view thinks that from the moment of conception when sperm and egg are united, a distinct and unique human person exists. • From this perspective abortion clearly violates respect for the life of the unborn child.

  4. The Declaration on Procured Abortion (1974) • A new and distinct life begins at the moment of conception

  5. The Declaration on Procured Abortion (1974) • Information from modern science affirms the statement “Right from fertilization the adventure of a human life begins.”

  6. The Declaration on Procured Abortion (1974) • Questions about the beginning of life and abortion are not just scientific; they are more properly philosophical and moral.

  7. The Declaration on Procured Abortion (1974) • If we are not sure when, in the course of development, a human person exists, we should presume that a human person is present at the earliest stage.
