  1. Cards 114-118 BOOK THAT SHOWS WE SHOULD EARNESTLY CONTEND FOR THE FAITH JUDE In the New Testament Church there were two Judes: Judas, one of the Twelve Apostles, and Judas, the brother of Jesus. The latter is commonly regarded as the writer of Jude. Evidently Jude had been planning to write a more general statement about the Gospel to his group of “Churches,” when news of a sudden Emergency arose which prompted him to revise his plan and to substitute this brief Epistle. False teachers, deceitful workers appeared on the scene the aim of whom being to seduce the saints and to corrupt the people of God; and the urgency of the situation led the writer to abandon his original plan and to write hurriedly this solemn warning. The author hurried from one warning to another as if his words were not sufficient to contain the torrent of invectives which he felt the occasion demanded. The aroused writer referred to these false teachers as ungodly, lascivious, infidels, murmurers, faultfinders, hypocrites, liars, deceivers and lovers of pleasure. The doxology with which it concludes is one of the most beautiful in the New Testament.

  3. REVELATION WRITTEN BY JOHN When we open the Book of Revelation we discover, at once, a marked difference between it and any other portion of the New Testament. It is not history like the gospels and Acts, nor practical discussions and instructions like the epistles, but we at once seem to breathe the atmosphere of prophets. The book is a book of prophecy. God Himself. That is the Book’s first statement. God Himself dictated it, through Christ, by an Angel, to John, who wrote it down, and sent the completed book to the Seven Churches of Asia John hears a deep and beautiful voice speak to him.

Its objective is to reveal the future, to show the things which must come to pass. In other words, its aim is to unfold the outlines of coming history as far as that history affects the fortunes of the church.

  7. TO ADD UNTO OR TAKE AWAY FROM THE BIBLE, BRINGS GOD’S WRATH AND REMOVAL OF ONE’S NAME FROM THE BOOK OF LIFE If any man add to these things. The whole spirit of the Scripture is against adding to or taking from the Lord’s words. This is a warning against invalid revelations. If any man take from. This could be done by denying, or explaining away the words of prophecy. To do either is a deadly sin. Indeed, to tamper with the Divine word in any way is sinful. Rationalistic critics do not like this passage, because it condemns them for assuming to themselves the liberty to eliminate whatever portions of Scripture they do not like just as it is, and beware of treating any part of it too lightly.
