Dundee (partnership) Housing education for youth- programme delivered to whole school Linc Clinic A partnership between Tayside Sexual Health and Reproductive Service, Paediatric/Child Protection Services and The Corner Changing Horizons A partnership between The Corner, Central Youth Team and Hot Chocolate delivering a range of sessions on health related topics

Dundee Peer Education Project Process S2 Peer Educators attend 8 weeks of training as an extra-curricular activity, focusing on alcohol, smoking and substance misuse 25 x S2 Peer Educators Recruited at 4 High School Baldragon Academy Morgan Academy Menzieshill High Craigie High S2 Peer Educators deliver 3-4 week programme to Primary 6 pupils at the associated cluster schools S2 Peer Educators take part in pre & post assessment of soft skills S2 Peer Educators attend 7 weeks of enhanced skills training S2 Peer Educators participate at team building residential All Peer Educators have Accreditation Opportunities Dynamic Youth Awards Youth Achievement Awards Duke of Edinburgh Saltire

Health Buddies in Schools Process S3 Health Buddies attend 10 weeks of training as an extra-curricular activity focusing on sexual health and relationships education S3 Health Buddies Recruited at 4 High School Baldragon Academy Morgan Academy Menzieshill High Braeview Academy S3 Health Buddies deliver sexual health and relationship education to S1 pupils during personal and social education classes S3 Health Buddies take part in pre & post assessment of soft skills S3 Health Buddies participate in team building residential S3 Health Buddies attend 6 weeks of support sessions All Health Buddies have Accreditation Opportunities Youth Achievement Awards Duke of Edinburgh Saltire Health Buddies in Schools

CORNER THE Peer-Led Opportunities Senior Peer Educators and Health buddies are invited to continue their personal development journey through a variety of opportunities Community Facilitate Consultation Workshops National Conferences Safetaysiders Community Centres Family Centres School Request Media Productions Film Photography Production of Resources DVD’s Books Exhibitions Increased confidence and self-esteem Group develop skills in leadership & presentation skills Group Trained in practical media techniques Health Buddies in Schools

Academic Year 2010-2011 Health Buddies in Schools recruited 27 S3 Health Buddies Peer Education Recruited 77 S2 peer Educators Peer Educators delivered programmes on drugs, alcohol and smoking to 860 P6 pupils at 14 cluster primary schools Health buddies delivered 4 sexual health and relationships education to 320 S1 pupils during social education classes 27 Health Buddies received Millennium Volunteer Awards 10 Health buddies worked towards a Bronze youth Achievement Award 60 Peer Educators worked towards a Bronze Youth Achievement Award 30 young people expressed an interest to continue their development with the projects Health Buddies in Schools

CORNER THE Summing up, Is the Corner approach different? • Set up specifically to address health inequalities • A young person friendly, informal and confidential service • CLD staff employed within the NHS in health related posts • One stop health and information service – confidential, partners, advocating, signposting (social prescribing model). • Integrated approach – more crossover, sharing staff resources, improved awareness of service provision “cost effective” • Continued commitment from DCC, NHS and Dundee Partnership in recognition of unique service offered
