DOD needs on Highways • Review STRAHNET roadways for adequacy, safety and suitability for military deployments: • Validity of STRAHNET Routes • Pavement Conditions • Bridge Conditions to support equipment • Suitability of route • Oversize/Overweight Permitting Assistance • Toll Relief from Private-Public Partnerships • SDDC

DOD needs on Highways • Critical Access Roadways to Seaports • Some routes under jurisdiction of locality rather than the State • Support establishment of a program to allow federal funds to be spent on these roads • Freight Transportation Gateways: Freight Intermodal Connections • Improvements to various access roads to commercial ports including those currently not eligible for Federal-aid funding. • STRAHNET connector roads to SPOE’s could be improved. • SDDC

DOD needs on Highways • Existing Congestion at military installations • Additional Growth Expected • 123,000 military and civilian personnel relocated • 18 military installations in 12 states expect significant personnel increases by 2011. • GAO reports much needed infrastructure improvements to local public transportation is needed to support personnel increases • Local communities unable to support improvements by 2011 • HND suggests new program be part of FHWA Reauthorization to help support communities affected by military growth • SDDC
