  1. Tag Rugby Year 4 -Lesson 1 Learning Objectives: L.O 1 – To develop pupils ability to run with the ball L.O 2 – To develop pupils ability to match a change of speed, with change of direction Challenge 1 – Pupils should be able to change direction successfully whilst running with the ball Challenge 2 – Pupils should be able to change direction at speed multiple times successfully whilst carrying the ball Challenge 3 – Pupils can use teaching points to beat defenders 1 vs 1 Numeracy in P.E! - Literacy in P.E! - Inspiration in P.E! - SoW Milestone Focus: 2 (Select and utilise appropriate tactics and techniques to cause problems for opponents). 8 (Can adapt throwing technique to ensure success in a variety of activities (distance, accuracy, control). Lesson Plan: Warm-up - Command Response: Pupils move into spaces jogging constantly, upon commands all pupils must perform action (Touch, 3 Steps, Jump, Hop, Robot arms, Wave.) STRETCH then repeat 1st phase of Warm-up. 2. Shuttle sprints w/ the ball – Organise your class into pairs, to start with the children will get used to running holding the ball by doing shuttle sprints. One child runs out to the line of cones in front of them, when they return their partners goes next! 3. Skill progression – ‘The steal’ feat. THE JOKER.: Pupils remain in the 4 groups and form a single file line in the corner of the playing area in a coned square. Divide the amount of rugby balls you have by 4 and place these in each of the 4 corners. In this game one-by-one pupils run out and ‘steal’ a ball from one of the other 3 teams. Inform the pupils the game will last for a set time- once the time is up the team with the most rugby balls wins! Pick one pupil to be the Joker. This pupil must attempt to ‘tag’ stealers. If tagged they must stand still for 5 seconds. The joker can change legs, but must hop for the whole game!! M/A Pupils are to be placed slightly closer to the centre of the playing area. 4. Skill related competition – ‘Beat the wall’: Create two lines. A start line and at the other side of the playing area a try line. A group at a time, pupils must aim to run and score a try past 2 defenders. All members of the group have a ball and must be wearing tag belts/bib hanging from waist band. The defenders can only hop and must try to stop pupils scoring a try!!!

  2. Tag Rugby Year 4 -Lesson 1 Running with the ball Pupils should hold the ball with two hands in front of their chest. This allows for maximum control and Means players can pass both left and Quickly. Process of elimination - Rugby Pupils should be taught to instantly move forwards upon receiving the ball. A rough process of thought could be. Can I score a try? Can I pass to someone who can? Skill intro - Shuttles L/A M/A Skill progression – ‘The Steal’ w/ THE JOKER! Pupils must pick up rugby balls from the other 3 teams’ squares. M/A pupils move closer to the centre of playing area L/A – Pupils can only enter their square through one side. Skill related competition – Beat the WALL! Groups take in it turns to score a try past their Teacher. The defenders can only move sideways M/A – The teacher can move in any direction. START LINE TRY LINE

  3. Tag Rugby Year 4 -Lesson 2 Learning Objectives: L.O 1 – To develop pupils ability to run with the ball L.O 2 – To develop pupils ability to pass the rugby effectively Challenge 1 – Pupils should be able to carry the ball successfully when running and pass the ball with some success when stationary Challenge 2 – Pupils should be able to change direction successfully & pass the ball w/ success Challenge 3 – Pupils should be able to change direction at speed, pupils will be able to pass effectively in varied environments. Numeracy in P.E! PROGRESS to timed challenges (Down the line and back etc). PROGRESS to passing laterally as a group whilst moving forwards. 4. Skill related competition – ‘Beat the teacher – One ball per team’: Each team attempts to score a try past the teacher (teacher must hop). Each team must complete 2 passes before they score a try.
