  2. Making a Literacy Plan • Look at where we have been. • Draw some conclusions. • Study the data. • What is to be learned from the data? • Study the research. • What is to be learned from the research? • Synthesize all of the information. • Make a plan for the year.

The Chiles Reading Plan • Strengthen the English program to include explicit instruction of reading strategies (reading coaches in the classroom, follow-up and feedback). • Three-week strategies unit. • Strongly encourage the use of guided reading instruction into content areas twice a week for 15 minutes (pre, during, post) • Encourage outside reading among students. • Continued study of individual teachers’ student data

  4. Chiles Reading Plan (cont’d.) • Test Readiness Activities Prior to FCAT. • Implementation of whole-faculty book study groups (Marzano, Classroom Instruction That Works) • Leadership Book Study Group • Build relationships among teachers through one-on-one dialogue, departments, book study groups, etc.
