Active volcano (Cotopaxi), Ancient Incas built Templo del sol (temple of the sun)

Quechua • Do any words cross both that language and Spanish? papa = potato • What are the names of the stadiums in Quito and Guyaquil? OlímpicoAtaluapa (Quito) and EstadioBancoPichinicha (Guyaquil) • What are the names of the fútbol teams that play there? EquipoNacional (Quito) Club Deportivo de Barcelona (Guyaquil) • When did Cotopaxi last erupt? 1940 • Who was the first person/team to reach the summit of Cotopaxi? When? Wilhelm Reiss and Angel Escobar 1890 • What is the traditional male dress of Otavalo? Blue poncho, white shorts, felt hat (fedora) • What types of housing do they have in Ecuador? Traditional houses - thatched roofs, palms, bamboo. Spanish houses - tile, white walls. 72% single family homes, 9% apartments, 4% traditional homes, 15% homeless or have insufficient housing • Anything on the “Want to know” section of your KWL that you still need to find.

We’re going to read, research, and relfect • Reflect (and maybe research some more) HOMEWORK - since we didn't get to it in class • Write a paragraph, in English, comparing what you learned about Ecuador to the facts/statistics about either the US, Delaware, or Middeltown. Focus on the areas of housing, sports or stadiums, and geography.
