  3. General statement • Narrow down with pertinent background information. You will also need to define any terms you may be using. • Get to your thesis

  4. Think about . . . • How can you introduce your subject matter in a general yet interesting way? • What information should you include? • A good rule of thumb assume your reader has read the work in question, and he/she just needs reminding

  5. With a partner • Write an introduction to the pretend essay you wrote . . . • Skip lines!!

  6. Now, exchange introductions. • 1. Look at this introduction and read it aloud to your partner. • 2. Does it begin with a general statement? • 3. Does it draw the reader in? • 4. Is there some basic background information? • 5. Is the thesis correct? • Make some general comments on this.

  7. Return the intro to its original owners • *Fix it!! (you can just insert things where needed) • *We will share in 7 minutes.
