  8. Benevolent Fund Results 2011 • 2011 Campaign Results • Goal = $1,850,000 • Total = $1,850,212 • UAB Medicine = $727,000 (39%) • Employee Emergency Assistance Program gave $177,544 to UAB employees • 158 employees • 80% approval rate • 74% to UAB Medicine employees

Tornado Relief 2011 • Additional $135,000 raised for tornado relief • Tornado Relief given to UAB employees and students - $127,588 in direct financial assistance to 147 employees & students • UAB Tornado Relief Forgivable Loan Program • Partner in awarding over $50,000 in grants & loans to UAB employees, students and other tornado survivors with unmet needs • The UAB Benevolent Fund continues to help employees with needs stemming from the tornadoes and represents UAB on the Central Alabama Long Term Tornado Relief Committee

March is National Nutrition Month • US Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin • Thursday, March 1 at 2:00 pm • UAB Hill Center Alumni Auditorium • Farm Stand Spring Market Opens March 5th • Mondays at Highlands Hospital from 2-3:30pm • Tuesdays at TKC from 9-2pm • Wednesdays at West Pavilion from 10-2pm • Look for a Nutrition Event Tuesday March 27th February was National Heart Month with over 2,170 participating in Heart and Vascular Services and Employee Wellness events.

  23. Departments that Don’t Measure Patient Experience? Interdepartmental Survey Tool • UAB Medicine decided to move forward with an Interdepartmental survey tool for departments that do not receive direct feedback from patients • The tool is designed to enhance leadership collaboration between departments that directly serve patients and their families, and departments that serve our internal customers or serve patients through support of another department

  24. Survey Process • First survey was sent to UAB Medicine leaders in April 2011 • 85 departments surveyed • 62% response rate with 491 leaders responding

  25. Survey Process • Second survey was sent in February • 104 departments surveyed including SOM departments for the first time • 62% response rate with 694 leaders responding • Overall score: • May 2011 – 4.29 • January 2012 – 4.50

  26. Survey Process • Survey will be conducted twice a year with the second one in July of this year • Rounding will be done on leaders who rated a department 3 or below • Action plans will be developed, approved and executed

  27. Improvements to the Process and Tool • Additional departments were surveyed • Descriptions of the departments were added • Print Button was added • Automated reporting • Phone numbers and a link to respondents were added for rounding on respondents
