  2. This award honors Benjamin Y. H. Liu for his leadership in the aerosol community and his own seminal contributions to aerosol science through instrumentation and experimental research. The Benjamin Y. H. Liu Award“recognizes outstanding contributions to aerosol instrumentation and experimental techniques that have significantly advanced the science and technology of aerosols”.

  3. 2011 Recipient of the Benjamin Y. H. Liu Award • David Diner • NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory • Nominated by Dr. Ralph Kahn • PhD, Caltech in Planetary Science, 1977 • Author of more than 100 refereed papers • Senior Research Scientist at JPL • PI for the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer instrument flying aboard NASA/EOS satellite since December 1999. • “He not only played a central role in developing the surface-aerosol retrieval algorithm, … , but he led the instrument development …” • “… the pioneer who made satellite observations of aerosol optical and microphysical properties over land possible.” • He's also already working on the follow-up instrument, the Multiangle SpectroPolarimetric Imager (MSPI) …” • “... MISR data accurately predicted regional-scale fine particle concentrations at ground level …”
