  2. In Vitro Fertilization with Surrogacy In Vitro Fertilization or IVF is a process in which the ovum( egg ) of a female and the sperm of a male partner is fertilized in a lab and the developed human embryo is then pushed into the uterus of the female partner for conception. IVF is used to treat infertility. Various treatments are advised by the IVF Specialist depending upon the causes of infertility. Surrogacy is a type of IVF procedure. In some cases of infertility Surrogacy is the only option to get one’s own child. In surrogacy, instead of transferring the developed embryo into the uterus of the mother, it is pushed into the uterus of a different woman. Such case is known as surrogacy. Surrogacy is of two types again. Gestational and Traditional. Surrogacy in India offers gestational surrogacy. Surrogacy is an arrangement supported by a legal document where a woman (surrogate mother) agrees to be pregnant and bear the child of intending parents who cannot carry their child to term due to medical complications. In this case the woman carries the child to its term and hands over the child to the biological parents. Such women are known as Gestational carriers or birth mothers. The surrogate woman has no biological connection with the baby.

  3. Surrogacy is recommended to couples having the following medical conditions:  Couples going through failed IVF cycles  Uterine issues of the intending mother  Hysterectomy  History of recurrent miscarriages  Pregnancy might be of high risk for the mother  Unexplained infertility  Age related problem

  4. These conditions prevent a couple to conceive. In such cases surrogacy is the only option of parenthood. That is why surrogacy has become popular in this subcontinent also. Due to late marriages, lifestyle changes and career orientation of women, the problem of infertility is rising in India. With the advancement of technology and state of the art hospitals having capable medical team has made surrogacy in Delhi very popular. Lawyers who have expertise in medico legal cases handle the legalities as surrogacy deals with a lengthy procedure and involvement of third parties. Contracts are signed between the surrogate, her husband and the service provider that procures surrogate mothers and oversees the procedure. One more contract is signed between the commissioning couples and the surrogate mother with her husband. No doubt surrogacy is not an easy process. But considering the happiness and enjoyment it provides to infertile couples it deserves importance and popularity. However, IVF and surrogacy does not come without risks. It increases the chance of multiple pregnancy resulting in premature delivery and low birth weight of babies. The success rate depends on the expertise of the medical team and quality of the embryos. It is really amazing that considering the complex and tedious process of this journey, thousands of healthy and happy babies are born worldwide.
