  5. Of the 597 Homeless-97% were in shelters

  7. 240 Participated in Survey • Of the 597 people experiencing homelessness only 240 elected to participate in the survey. • Consistent with prior years practice, no children under the age of 18 participated in the survey

  12. 39.6% homeless for the first time

  13. 50% came to Roanoke in a homeless position

  14. Why come to Roanoke? Shelter and Jobs

  20. 21% are veterans – a lesser percent than last year

  21. 71.7% have high school education or beyond

  27. 28% currently receiving mental health services

  28. 30% have been treated for problems related to alcohol

  29. 27% previous treatment for drug dependency

  30. Challenges facing homeless

  31. Homeless Comments • Without housing, stress multiplies on itself.. • Sad that jobs are so scarce where you can’t find a job. • We can be responsible and accountable if things are affordable and livable.

  32. Methodology • The procedures used to collect information for this Point in Time Survey were consistent with those used in prior surveys • Homeless clients were interviewed by agency staff, the Homeless Assistance Team and other volunteers • 100% of Shelters elected to participate in this survey
