  1.  On the planet Earth, life has evolved and shaped its own habitat from land to oceans, grasslands to wetlands, deserts to dense forests, etc. These habitats are rich with bio- diversity and form a complex web of ecological system. Based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), we can classify as follows– • Normal Species • Endangered Species • Extinct Species.  All organisms of ecological system depend on each other for their existence. Plants, animals and micro-organisms re-create:• The quality of air we breathe • The water that we drink and, • The soil which produces food for us Forests are the ‘primary producers’ on which all the other living beings depend.  These are regarded as the most valuable for the conservation of forests and wildlife resources. One-third of the total forest area is protected forests. Unclassed forests constitute 5 % of India’s forested land. Small areas await classification is either reserved or protected forests. These belong to government, private individuals and communities.
