  1. Dihybrid Crosses

  2. Dihybrid Cross A dihybrid cross is one that deals with two pairs of contrasting traits at the same time Since there are 2 contrasting traits, there are 4 alleles to consider – 2 alleles for each trait Different from the monohybrid cross, there are 4 possible gametes from the male and female thus the Punnett Square will have 16 boxes

  3. Dihybrid Cross Cross a homozygous Green inflated-pod plant (GGII) with a homozygous yellow constricted-pod plant (ggii)

  4. Independent Assortment • After using dihybrid crosses, Mendel’s results led him to develop the concept of Independent Assortment: • This states that the segregation or separation of one set of alleles during gamete formation is not affected by the presence or absence of other sets of alleles • The only exception to this would be if two sets of alleles were on the same chromosome, this concept would not apply

  5. Dihybrid Cross Cross the offspring (heterozygous) for color and pod type.
