These images stored can be used later on for digital processing, digital publishing, digital printing or simply viewing. But with such a powerful instrument it becomes imperative to learn the basics from a photography school, if possible. There are numerous sites on the internet which offer free digital photography courses. 2. Nikon India Private Limited Getting started with the digital camera Shooting images is the ultimate job of a camera but before a person is able to do it, there are a few things that need to be sorted out like: Setting up the camera: This primarily includes four things: oFully charging the battery before using for the first time and then only charging it when it gets completely depleted of the charge enhances the performance of the battery and gives it a longer shelf life. oInserting the memory card into the correct memory slot for storing the images captured, should be done only after the battery is fully charged. oSetting up the date and time by following instructions appearing onscreen. oFormatting the memory card so that it syncs properly with the camera and also creates the required files and folders in which to store the images shot. Choosing the correct picture format: The precision of images already captured can only be translated onto viewing media by setting up the correct picture format for its http://www.nikonschool.in Phone: 1800-102-7346 Institutional Area, Gurgaon Fax: 0124 4688527 Haryana – 122001 Email: Nikon.school@nikon.com Plot No.71, Sec 32,

  3. Nikon India Private Limited storage. Generally, photography classes, suggest recording images in raw formats and JPG which have to be converted into JPEG files before actual viewing. Setting the image size and its compression: It is good practise to set the image size to the maximum pixel count available in the camera. This enables the photographer to capture as many details as possible in the images shot. Selecting the option for the lowest compression fits more images onto the memory card. Selecting the mode of exposure: For amateurs and beginners, it is best to select the auto mode. Once a person has ample experience, he can start experimenting with the amount of exposure he wants in the picture he wants to capture. White balance selection: Setting this option to auto will enable the camera to automatically select the right white balance depending on the light conditions under which an image is shot, thereby getting the colours right. Choosing auto-focus: For an amateur it is always better to select the option for auto- focus. Once a person gets the hand of the camera and becomes proficient in its use by attending to various photography workshops and classes, the manual mode can be selected. The only thing left to be done after this is to ensure that the camera’s default image stabilisation mode is switched on. This makes the camera ready for use and can be easily operated by any person with a passion for photography. http://www.nikonschool.in Phone: 1800-102-7346 Institutional Area, Gurgaon Fax: 0124 4688527 Haryana – 122001 Email: Nikon.school@nikon.com Plot No.71, Sec 32,
