Introduction What is Wikipedia? • Wikipedia is a multilingual web based free content encyclopedia, written collaboratively by the people who use it. • It is a special type of website designed to make collaboration easy, called a wiki. Many people are constantly improving Wikipedia, making thousands of changes per hour. • Wikipedia was launched on January 15, 2001, by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. • Wikipedia official Website: http://www.wikipedia.org/

Purpose • Wikipedia's purpose is to benefit readers by acting as an encyclopedia, a comprehensive written compendium that contains information on all branches of knowledge. • “Our goal with Wikipedia is to create a free encyclopedia; indeed, the largest encyclopedia in history, both in terms of breadth and in terms of depth. We also want Wikipedia to be a reliable resource”.—Larry Sanger

  4. Users • Wikipedians are people who write and edit the pages for Wikipedia, unlike readers who simply read the articles. Anyone can be a Wikipedian including you. • Wikipedians must register accounts. • Readers are the people who read the pages in Wikipedia. The readers can be anyone too such as students, researchers etc

Advantages of Wikipedia • Easy to use and navigate through website. • Contains millions of articles. • Do not need to wait for a publisher to approve of the content. • Anyone can add information onto the website. • Cited sources at the bottom of the page can lead the users to more related information.

  6. Disadvantages of Wikipedia • Anyone can edit it. • All the information may not be reliable. • Structure of the website is not very organized. • Not always accepted as a valid source. • Some topics only have general information instead of a detailed description.

How To Use & DEMONTRATION • How to create a Wikipedia article • STEP 1 - Make sure to have appropriate topic • STEP 2- Make sure to have reliable sources • STEP 3- Make sure Wikipedia didn’t have the article that user want to write • STEP 4 - Search the topic user want to create on Google • STEP 5 - Make sure to register • STEP 6 - Practice to write article on provided tools • STEP 7 - User can start composing article if the searching result does not have article or topic user want to write • STEP 8 - When finish composing, click preview to proofread. Save page to publish Video
