What is a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)? • The committee may also be known as the joint work site health and safety committee, workplace safety and health committee, occupational health and safety committee or occupational health committee. • JHSC is a forum that is made up of labour and management representatives who meet on a regular basis to deal with health and safety issues at the workplace. • Employers are responsible for establishing joint health and safety committees.

What Does a Joint Health and Safety Committee Do? • Monitor and follow-up the workplace hazard reports and suggest the appropriate action. • Identify the workplace hazards. • Respond to employee complaints and recommendations. • Participate in resolving workplace refusals and work stoppages. • Analyze effectiveness of safety programs and procedures. • Evaluate the hazards and risks that may cause incidents, injuries and illness. • Set up and promote programs to improve employee training and education. • Implementation of programs to protect the employees' safety and health.
