  1. 23.05.2018 Semalt Explains How Server Response Affects SEO Servers are the computers, which form the chassis of the internet. They determine the response of a website on various devices at different times. The loading speed of a site page has an impact on the ranking of that particular internet site. Frank Abagnale, the Customer Success Manager of Semalt, explains what different status codes actually mean for your SEO. When a user clicks a link, the server returns a header status, then the information like URL to show where the browser is trying to reach. This process is fully automatic unless something goes wrong. The server header status code determines the message to send to the user e.g. a shopper shopping online. For example, you have a website www.mywebsite.com. When someone clicks this link, the server receives this response and returns a response consisting of a server header and HTML code which appears on the browser. The header begins with line "HTTP/1.1 200 OK". Web developers have a sound knowledge to interpret these header status codes. Each response has a unique impact on the SEO potential of a website. 2. 23.05.2018 1. "200 OK" code. This is the best error status on a website. It means that the web page has loaded successfully on the user's browser. For instance, a person shopping in www.mywebsite.com may see this response when the query is right. The code is good for your SEO since the search engines see everything is okay and users will ?nd your page. 2. "301 Moved Permanently" code. This status code appears when the content you are looking for has been moved. It redirects the user and search engines to the URL on your website where the content can be found. This will increase its authority as well as giving a presuming "200 OK". Put this strategy in place for SEO to work ef?ciently. Bad status codes 1. "302 Found" server header status code. This is very harmful to you SEO efforts. It means that it is redirecting the user to the new content. For a website which is not concerned with traf?c, it is okay since the buyer will make a purchase anyway. However, this error does not pass authority to the target page. Consequently, page ranking does not improve. 2. 400-level server header status code. If the server interprets the request as if the content if no longer available, it may display a "404 Not Found" or "410 Gone" code. This response is particularly bad for your SEO. The search engine knows users will not ?nd any bene?t when they click this link. 3. 404 or 410 errors. This wastes link authority and increases chances of deindexing your missing web content. It means that there is a broken link or some content is missing. It has the worst impact on SEO. For any online business, search engine optimization is important for a steady online presence and good ranking. However, SEO alone cannot be a success when certain aspects are not in place. For instance, the response of the server has a signi?cant impact on such SEO efforts. As seen above, different types of status codes mean various aspects are happening on the server. Different responses have a different impact on your SEO strategies. Following the above tips, you can check, adjust and possibly correct some of the mistakes in your hosting package, mainly the server. This process will not only restore the authority of your site on search engines but also retain your ?ow of clients. https://rankexperience.com/backuparticles/article901.html 2/2
