  2. History • Formed in 1982 • Budget comes mostly from dues • Representatives from 7 regional systems • Members at large • Work closely with KLA (KS Library Assn.) • Work also with KLTA (KS Library Trustee Association

  3. Mission • To encourage and support new and existing local Friends groups • To facilitate the exchange of useful information among organizations of Friends • To advocate for excellent library services

  4. Key Activities • Newsletter - quarterly • Facebook page • Awards & grants • Conference presence • Webpage • Startup kits • Merchandise – license plates & tote bags • Consultation

  5. Organization Executive Board – meets quarterly • Four officers • Regional Trustees • Members at large • Special Board members THIS IS THE FULL BOARD!!!

  6. Organization Executive Committee – meets other months • President via online conferencing • Vice President • Secretary • Treasurer • Public Relations Chair • Membership Chair Other board members welcome to participate!

  7. Organization Committees • Finance chaired by Treasurer • Governance chaired by Vice President • Membership • Public Relations Each board member should serve on a committee.

  8. To Function Well Good communication • Share news and ideas with the group • Use e-mail and Facebook • Liaisons to key groups are vital Promote Friends and FoKL • At system meetings • At Friends meetings • Be a library advocate at all times

  9. FoKL Rocks!! What are we known for? • Great booths at the library conference • Wonderful awards and grants • A passionate board of directors • Work and play well with others!

  10. Be a good board member Ask questions! Help new trustees & those unfamiliar with libraries Think out of the box Have some fun too!!
