Overview • Through a cooperative arrangement among JISC, Knowledge Exchange, and BioOne, the complete BioOne collections are now available at a reduced rate to participating institutions in the United Kingdom. • BioOne (www.bioone.org) is a unique aggregation of high-impact bioscience research journals, featuring timely content on a wide-array of today’s most pressing topics, including global warming, stem cell research, and ecological and biodiversity conservation. • BioOne includes 160 titles from 123 publishers, with over 500,000 pages of content, growing daily. • Nearly half of all titles are available online exclusively through BioOne. • 70% of titles are currently ISI ranked, with many considered the leaders in their respective fields.

Features for Libraries • Open URL compliance • Delivery of MARC metadata • Administrative & customization capabilities including: • institutional branding • on-demand, COUNTER-compliant usage reporting • easy management of subscribed content • Z39.50 client-server protocol • Automated deposits to Portico

Seamless Access • Participating institutions in the United Kingdom will be granted access to BioOne through IP authentication, with no user login necessary. • All users may create a personal profile (email address as username and a unique password) to access preferences and store e-alerts. • Library administrators have a special administrator tab in their profile to manage their institution’s access, brand patrons’ BioOne view, and download usage statistics.

  7. My BioOne User Profile • Once users are logged into the site, their My BioOne profile is visible and they can manage their account: • by Journal; • by Article; • by Alerts; • by Access; • by Account Info; and • by Administrative tool (for Library Administrators only).

  8. Access profile by clicking on “My BioOne” My BioOne User Profile Manage your account by clicking on tab headings

Library Administration • From the Library Administration tab, you can: • view accessible journals included in your subscription; • download MARC records; • add other administrators; • retrieve usage statistics; • manage your IP addresses; • manage your institution’s branding; and • enable or disable content suppression.

  11. Browse BioOne • Users can browse BioOne in three ways: • by Title • by Publisher • by Collection

Browse by Title • View the list of issues • Expand the list of issues • Click on an issue • View issue table of contents • View selected abstracts, email abstracts, add to favorites, track citations, and download to citation manager • View articles • Individually or by selecting all • View full abstract • View abstract and references, full text and PDF

  13. Browse by Publisher • Browse by alphabetical list of publishers/sponsoring organizations • Expand or collapse list • Find information about the publisher, including aims & scopes • Link to the publisher site and membership information • View titles associated with each publisher

  14. Browse by Collection • Browse through BioOne .1, BioOne. 2, and Open Access Collections • Jump to each collection on page • Expand or collapse all • Browse by publisher, current issue, list of issues, and title information • Open Access content is defined with a special icon:

  16. Searching in BioOne • Users can search BioOne in the following ways: • by Author; • by Article or Chapter Title; • by Abstract; • by Full Text; • by DOI; and • by Figure and Table Captions.
