  3. The development • Increasing number of elderly • Increased emphasis on social welfare • Resources concentrated to less elderly • Important to strenghten and develop social welfare Susanne Öhrling

  4. Elderly • SRK has a long tradition of support to elderly • Important target group • Focus on riskfactors such as loneliness, isolation, discrimination, abuse, accidents, Susanne Öhrling

  5. In 2008 • 4 000 caring for relatives received support • 30 000 elderly received visitor services, support from volunteers • 146 000 obtained help from hospital hosts • 45 000 called the Red Cross telephone help- lines Susanne Öhrling

  6. Actions to reach by 2014 • People exposed to volunerability are able to better cope because to humanitarian support and health promotion • Run and delvelop visitor service and services for relatives • Organize telephone help lines and discussion groups • Prevent accidents and continue health promotion actvities Susanne Öhrling

  7. Swedish Red Cross works for the rights of elderly 1. Important resource and have the right to a good life 2. The right to health, nursing and health care should be secured 3. Attention must be drawn to the right of elderly and the obligations in society Susanne Öhrling

  8. Elderly should not be discriminated against • It should be possible for elderly to take part in activities that give their life meaning • Community services should be easily accessible for older people Susanne Öhrling

The state, County Council, local authorities should cooperate to secure the right of elderly to health, nursing and helath care • The home environment should correspond to the need the eldery • The municipalities should provide support to relatives Mental illness among the elderly must be promoted and treated Susanne Öhrling

  10. Elderly have right to change their place of residence • Cooperation in issues regarding elderly between local authorities and voluntary organizations must increase • Local action programmes for elderly must exist in all local authorities Susanne Öhrling
