  2. VCHS Graduation Requirements • 1. English – 4 credits (4 years) • 2. Science – 3 credits (3 years) • 3. Mathematics – 3 credits (3 years) • 4. Social Science – 3 credits • No required social science in Freshman year • 5.Physical Education – 1credit • 6. Fine Arts/Speech – 1credit (.5 cr. Debate, speech, Forensics / .5 cr. Music, drama Journalism) • 7. Information Technology - .5 credit • 8. 10.5 Elective Credits

Freshman Required Courses • Physical Education – 1 credit • English – 1 credit (one of three courses): • Freshman English, Pre-AP English 9, or Honors 9/10 English • Science – 1 credit (one of two courses): • Physical Science or Integrated Unified Science • Math – 1 credit (one of 4 courses): • Algebra I, Geometry, Honors Geometry or Pre-Algebra • Electives – 3 credits, selected from those listed on the enrollment form • Alternate Electives – (choose 6 courses)

Kansas RegentsQualified Admissions Standards • Complete the precollege or Kansas Scholars Curriculum with minimum GPA of 2.0 • Achieve one of the following: • ACT of 21 or higher, or • SAT of 980 or higher, or • Graduate in top one-third of their class • AND – Earn a 2.0 GPA on any college class taken in high school

Regents Qualified AdmissionPrecollege Curriculum • English – 4 units or credits • Natural Science – 3 units or credits • At least 1 unit must be Chemistry or Physics • Math 3 units or credits from the following: • Algebra I; Geometry; Algebra II; any course with Algebra II as a prerequisite AND • Students must meet the ACT college readiness benchmark (22 or higher on math portion of ACT) • Students not meeting the ACT benchmark will enroll in a 4th unit of math in their senior year

NCAA Clearing HouseInitial Eligibility • For Division I full qualifier: • 16 core courses in the following areas: • 4 years of English • 3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher) • 2 years of natural/physical science • 1 year of additional English, math or science • 2 years of social sciences • 4 years of additional core courses from the above or from foreign language • Minimum GPA of 2.3 in those 16 core courses • Must complete 10 core courses before 7th semester of high school

College and Career Readiness/Post-Secondary Education Training and Workforce Readiness FACTS of Support for CCR at the Secondary Level • 56 % College``` Graduates require 6 years to obtain their College Degree • 29 % of High School Graduates have a College Degree • 60K----Average Debt of College Graduates with 4 + year degree • 68 % of all jobs by 2020 will require technical training beyond high school • In Kansas we are preparing 41% of students for STEM careers, when 60% is needed NOW! • Senate Bill 155----Geared towards jump starting high school students into a specific education college program or skilled trade with potential Certification and/or workplace Credential.

Freshman Orientation- March 7, 2013 Post Secondary and Workforce Career Readiness OpportunitiesArchitecture and ConstructionHutchinson Community College & Valley Center High School = Existing Pathway(s) = 2013-14 Pathway(s) VC Breakdown of Results by Career Cluster = Possible Future Pathway(s) NEW NCCER Course Offering(National Center for Construction Education Research).Residential Carpentry II (Receive up to 8 college credit hours and credentialed certificate program.) This course will meet for two consecutive periods daily. • Safety Orientation 1 Credit Hour • Introductory Craft Skills 3 Credit Hours • Basic Carpentry 4 Credit Hours Dual/concurrent credit will be awarded to VC students enrolled for NCCER Residential Carpentry II.
