  2. WHAT ARE DIRECT ACCESS GRANTS? Grants provide funding to eligible non-profit organizations for delivery of approved on-going programs to their communities. Delivered program must have been operated for at least 12 months prior to application. Funding for any combination of program costs and minor capital project costs may be approved to a maximum of $100,000 annually.

  3. Only one application for a Direct Access Program grant will be accepted per government fiscal year. A separate Application for a Major Capital Project Grant may also be submitted. Each application is assessed on its own merit and demonstrated community need. In 2005/06, approximately 6,300 community organizations will receive an estimated $137 million in gaming grants.

  4. GRANT GUIDELINES • An application does not guarantee any level of funding. • The requested amount may not be approved and the approved amount may vary from year to year. • Gaming commission will only fund up to 75% of the program cost. • The other 25% is to be made up of fundraising, municipal contributions and in-kind support. • In-kind support may be in any combination of • volunteer time • donated labour, • equipment, • services and materials from other sources.

  5. Valuation of volunteerism and donations is based on: Donated materials at verified fair market value Donated accredited professional services at verified fair market value General labour (e.g., admin support) @ $10/hr Skilled labour (i.e., Marketing, Communications, Tech Support) @ $25/hr Complete records of all volunteered hours and donated services/ materials must be retained as part of the your gaming records.

  6. THE GRANT APPLICATION • Apply for grant funding under the “Human & Social Services Program ” sector. We are defined as a program that “significantly contribute(s) to the quality of life in a community, including… promoting health or enhancing opportunities for youth. • Do not apply under the Service Organization. This meant for groups such as Legions, Rotary Clubs and other such organizations. • The Cadet Corps is not allowed to “acquire assets” (other than DND assets that are on loan to them) so they depend on the sponsoring committee to acquire and “own” those assets.
